27 years ago today, my friend Mona was born on a little island called Saipan that I didn’t know existed until I met her back in 2001 in community college. I immediately liked Mona when I heard her speak in my Humanities class even though she seemed extremely shy, which is not a word I’d use to describe her now. I could tell right away that she was a smarty pants who would be my friend. I told her she just HAD to join the newspaper staff because we needed some smarties in there and she did! I’m just a little bossy and like when people do what I tell them! Well, as she always says, because of me, she met her husband Mike and she is now a few months away from giving birth to her second little boy.
Since we met, Mona has ALWAYS been there for me, even if its just been online to chat. We chat almost everyday and it’s one of my favorite things about my day. We chatted through my lonely year in Sacramento in which she helped calm me down about the prospect of me becoming a mother, me getting excited about being a mother, me having a miscarriage, and a year later, we chatted about me deciding kids are not for me. She was there for me when I got fired from my dream job last year. She is part of all my decisions, tragic or not! I love this woman! Did I mention she also recently performed her first stand-up comedy routine?
What I’m trying to say here is, I feel bad for people who don’t know Mona. She is someone you want to have on your team and I am very lucky that I do!
Happy birthday Mona! You’re the cats pajamas!
